Trivento is the global market leader in Argentinian wines. We visited the winery in November 2016 and tried their entire range. The UK offerings are mostly retailed in Tesco, which sells the Parra Alta Malbec and the reserve Malbec. They have also recently introduced this ‘Private Reserve’ Malbec, which is grown at altitude in the foothills of the Andes mountains in the Maipu area of Mendoza. My family treated me to a zip-wire ride in London, followed by a parilla lunch at Santa Maria del Sur Argentinian restaurant in Battersea, for my birthday. On a Sunday you can bring your own wine & there’s no corkage charge. Their wine list is excellent – but we brought along this Malbec to try with their amazing steaks. It went very well – like I did on the zip-wire…
Tasting notes: This wine has the distinctive inky, garnet colour typical of malbecs. The mouthfeel is velvety, and the wine is smooth and has very soft tannins. There are subtle oak notes (40% of the yield is aged in French oak). Faint notes of spice, cherries and raspberries. Good wine.
