This is the ubiquitous supermarket Picpoul de Pinet: ‘ubiquitous’ because they pretty much all stock the identical wine from the same co-operative producer, but with a different label.
Tasting notes: Initial nose of green apples and citrus. Fresh & refreshing. Green apples and lemon and lime notes. Balanced acidity, this wine works best with food. Short finish, little intensity, little complexity, but good summer drinking.
Region of Origin – Languedoc, Southern France
Wine Colour – White
Price – £8 currently £7 (it’s slightly cheaper in Tesco…)
Where do I get it from? – Sainsburys.
Current Vintage – 2019
Producer – Les Costieres de Pomerols
Type of Closure – Screwcap
Grape – 100% Picpoul (or Piquepoul… or Picapoll)
Verdict– Good wine for the money
Food Pairings: Summer Salmon or chicken & tarragon. Excellent with shellfish.
I first had a Picpoul with a plate of oysters in Bouzigues, Languedoc and since then it has become my wine of choice with seafood. I buy from The Wine Society 👍
