We used to go to France every 2 months to stock up on food and wine. With declining Sterling rates, busier lives and Calais resembling a post-Apocalyptic bandit-zone we lost interest… Last week we returned. Calais is still not what it used to be; there’s high fencing, razor wire, and most of the roadside trees have been felled. Despite the demolition of the jungle there was still large groups roaming around. We made a break for Boulogne to shop, and then to Le Touquet for lunch. At the exchange rate of £1 to 1.08 Euros this wine worked out at about £8.20 a bottle – it’s not retailed in the UK but it’s sold in the US at about £16, and in Australia at £25. It is an attractive looking bottle…
