Pewley Down English Sparkling Rosé 2016

I’m a great fan of English wine. It’s not cheap however, and for £32.50 I have high hopes indeed. This wine was a bit of a gamble; I was unaware of this Surrey producer. This compares well with other English Sparkling Wines on price and I found it to be a delicious, celebratory wine.

Tasting Notes: A delicate, extremely pale rose colour. In fact almost imperceptibly so. Hints of strawberry on the palate. A little ‘grip’. Has a very fine persistent mousse. The ageing and production have produced a genuinely classy wine. Perfectly balanced. Some length to the finish.

Wine Colour – White
Price – £32.50
Where do I get it from? – Corkage (Guildford), directly from the vineyard.
Current Vintage – 2016

Bottle size – 750ml
Grape – I was unable to establish this; I’d hazard bacchus and maybe a couple of other grape varieties commonly used in English wines.
Country – England (Surrey)
Verdict – Very Good

Food Pairings: Perfect on its own or with canapes
