Winter whites for the festive season

These are the white wines for the festive season – and they’re all French. They’re not all Chardonnays from Burgundy, however – there’s a lovely Sancerre on the list!

First up (left)is Signe Bourgogne Montagny

Tasting notes: Notes of tropical fruits. Some minerality & creaminess on the palate. Elegant for the money. Good texture.

Next Joseph Drouhin Rully Premier Cru.  Joseph Drouhin is an excellent winemaker. He buys these Rully grapes as part of his negociant business, with the winemaking taking place in his Cote d’Or vineyard. 8-10 months in oak.

Tasting notes: Complex with a long finish. Aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, lemon, orange, oak, quince, with a touch of honey.

Then there’s Domaine les Marroniers Montmains Chablis Primier Cru 

Tasting notes: Initially detected some mineral notes. Hints of tropical fruits. Some creaminess on the palate. Good texture.

Domaine Reverdy Ducroux Sancerre ‘Beau Roy’ is the only Sauvignon Blanc to make the cut.
