Blanc Neuf La Bastide – Laithwaites

Blanc Neuf La Bastide 2018 is another unusual proposition – a blend similar to a white Côtes Du Rhône – but from Languedoc… A previous vintage was named ‘World’s Best White Blend’ under £11 by the Decanter World Wine Awards. It’s been compared to a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. I see that; similarly this ought to be drunk young, and had a creamy, vanilla note that must be from malolactic fermentation and a period in oak.

Tasting notes: This is typical Laithwaites wine – they are often aromatic. Appearance is pale lemon in colour. On the nose floral and stone fruit notes. Closes up if over-chilled. Same notes on the palate. Balanced acidity. Some length to the finish. Just off dry. Some intensity and some complexity.
